Designing a crisis screen people don’t have to relearn

How Emergency Mode in Filis changes what matters without changing where things are.

Designing a crisis screen people don’t have to relearn

Same layout, different job

When a student’s money is running out, they are stressed. The worst thing an app can do then is look unfamiliar. So Emergency Mode keeps the same hero number, the same navigation and the same card shapes. Only the header colour (blue to amber) and the content change.

  • Normal: safe to spend today
  • Emergency: how many days this lasts

What changes

  • The one number

From “what can I spend today” to “how many days this will last”.

  • The shortcuts

Activity, Learn, Goals and Social give way to Lock cards, Smart alerts and Get advice.

  • The list

Logging new purchases is replaced by a protected list of what’s left for essentials.

Nobody has to find it

Students don’t open a menu to enter Emergency Mode. Filis offers it the moment the forecast turns critical, so protection never depends on remembering where it lives, and it never blocks or shames the student for needing it.
